Venues
Belgrade
Belgrade , the capital of Serbia and Montenegro , was the main venue for the 2005 European Basketball Championship. The group C preliminary round games were played in the Pionir Hall , while all games from the quarterfinals were played in the Belgrade Arena . With 19,500 visitors in the final, the arena set a new attendance record at a European championship.
This was the third time that this competition was held in Belgrade. Belgrade was the venue for the European basketball championships in 1961 and 1975.
Podgorica
In Podgorica's Sportski centar Morača , the six group B matches were played. This city in Montenegro is the furthest away from the central venue.
Novi Sad
Novi Sad , nicknamed “The City of Sports”, is located in the Vojvodina province and is home to the Spens Sports Center . The six group D group matches took place there.
Vršac
Vršac hosted the Group A games during the tournament. The six games took place in the 4,058-seat Millennium Center .
Preliminary round
In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time.
