European Basketball Championship 2005 / Division B
A new qualification system was introduced as part of the qualification for the 2005 European Basketball Championship . The teams were divided into a division A and a division B. In the Division A stronger teams were divided, which played to qualify for the European Championship. The weaker team in Division B played two teams who were promoted to Division A and thus in Division A for places at the 2007 European Basketball Championship .
Qualifying Round
In the qualifying round, 15 teams were drawn in three groups of four teams and one group of three teams. The first placed of the four groups qualify for the promotion games.

Promotion Games (Qualification Games)
In the climb games, the four group winners played two climbers in the Division A from. For this purpose, two teams were drawn against each other to determine who had been promoted in two games.
