The Luxembourg national basketball team represents Luxembourg in men's international basketball matches, such as international tournaments and friendly matches.

The team has not yet been able to qualify for World Championships or Olympic Games, but it took part in European Championships three times.

history

The Luxembourg national team joined FIBA in 1934 . The team took part in the 1946 European Championship in Switzerland . There they lost all three games in the group stage and ultimately played against Belgium for 7th place. This game was also clearly lost and Luxembourg was 8th out of ten teams. Due to the small number of participants at this European Championship, this was the highest ranking that the Luxembourg basketball players achieved at an EM.

The EM 1951 was finished without a victory in 17th and penultimate place. Even at the European Championship in 1955 , the Luxembourgers had no chance of reaching the final round, but managed at least three wins in ten games and finished the European Championship in 15th place. Since then, they have not participated in an international tournament.

The basketball team has also represented Luxembourg at the games of the small states of Europe since 2003 . They won the silver medal in 2007, 2009 and 2013 and the bronze medal in 2003, 2005 and 2015.

In 1984 the selection was voted Luxembourg Team of the Year .
