The 7th European Basketball Championship of Men ( official: Euro Basket 1951 ) was held from 3 to 12 May 1951 in Paris instead. After their EM abstinence in 1949, the USSR repeated the gold triumph of 1947 in their second tournament participation, when they again prevailed against Czechoslovakia in the final . As a two-time European Championship champion, the Soviet team drew level with Lithuania in terms of number of title wins . Behind silver medal winners Czechoslovakia, hosts France won the bronze medal.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in four groups with two five or two four teams each. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided against each other.

The two first and second place winners in each group were set for the semi-finals and were already eighth. The remaining teams played in the placement round for the 9th EM place. The only exception was the last two places in the large groups A and B, who had to play in a separate elimination game. While the winner then took part in the placement round, the European championship ended as 17th and penultimate tournament for the loser. The last European Championship place went to Romania , whose team had not started and so all games with 0: 2 points and baskets were counted as lost.
