The women's basketball championship 2011 (officially: Eurobasket Women 2011 ) was the 33rd edition of the competition . It took place in Poland from June 18 to July 3, 2011 and was organized by FIBA Europe . The title was won by Russia , which defeated the Turkish team in the final . 3rd place went to defending champion France .
The winner of the tournament qualifies directly for the 2012 Olympic Games . The four next-placed teams receive a starting place in a qualifying tournament, through which five other teams qualify for the games.

Preliminary round
In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, it was extended.

Intermediate round
After the preliminary round, the first three teams in each group qualified for the intermediate round. The total of six teams in groups A and B formed group E, those in groups C and D formed the new group F. Each team competed once against each of the three teams from the other preliminary group. The points against the other qualified teams from their own preliminary group were continued.

Final rounds
After the intermediate round, the first four teams of both groups E and F qualified for the final round, which was held in knockout mode. The quarter-finals were played crosswise against an opponent from the other intermediate round group. Then both the winners of the quarter-finals met in the semifinals, as well as the losers in the "small semifinals". The winners of the semi-finals played the final, the losers the game for 3rd place. The winners of the "small semifinals" played for 5th place, the losers for 7th place.

The Russian Jelena Danilotschkina was chosen as the most valuable player of the tournament . During the course of the tournament, she had hit more than half of her throws from beyond the three-point line. In addition to her, her compatriot Marija Stepanowa , the Turkish Nevriye Yılmaz , Eva Vítečková from the Czech Republic and the Croatian Sandra Mandir were elected to the All-Tournament Team .
