The 19th European Basketball Championships the men ( officially: Euro Basket 1975 ) was held from 7 to 15 June 1975 in Yugoslavia instead. Host Yugoslavia was able to successfully defend its title with a victory in a direct duel over the record champion from the USSR . Italy secured the bronze medal behind the silver-decorated Soviet selection .

Venues

The games were played in Belgrade , Split , Karlovac and Rijeka .

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in three groups of four teams each. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided against each other.

The two first and second place winners in each group were set for the final round and already secured 6th place in the European Championship. The remaining teams played in the placement round for the 7th EM place.

Placement round

All teams that had missed the first two places in their preliminary group to advance, played in a single group for the 7th European Championship place. This went to the winner of the placement round, whose further order decided on the EM places 8 to 12. So the runner-up was automatically eighth in the European Championship, the third placed got the 9th place in the European Championship, etc. The results of the matches that had already taken place in the preliminary round were included in the placement round.

The two first and second place winners of each preliminary group played in a single group for the European title. This went to the winner of the final round, whose further order decided on the EM places 2 to 6. So the second placed EM silver, the third placed EM bronze etc. The results of the encounters, which already took place in the preliminary round, were taken over into the final round.
