The Hungarian national basketball team represents Hungary in men's international basketball matches, such as international tournaments and friendly matches.

So far, the team has participated in four Olympic Games and 14 European championships. Participation in a world championship has not yet succeeded.

history

The Hungarian national team joined FIBA in 1935 . In the same year, the team took part directly in the first European championship for national basketball teams in Switzerland and finished ninth there. As a result, the Hungarians established themselves among Europe's elite and took part in the Olympic Games four times.

European Champion 1955

After being runner-up behind the USSR in 1953 , the Hungarians were crowned European champions at their home European championships in 1955 . The team won nine of the ten games, including the decisive 82:68 against the favored selection of the USSR.

After this triumph the team was able to position itself three times in fourth place, better results could not be achieved. The last participation in a European Championship was in 1999 when the Hungarians finished 13th.
