history

Sport in general was slow to take on organized forms in Andorra. It was not until 1971 that the small state founded its own Olympic Committee, which was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1975 . As early as 1970, BC Andorra was one of the first basketball clubs in Andorra, which in the beginning could be regarded as the "national team of Andorra" because the best Andorran basketball players played there. At times this club played for several years in the highest basketball league in Spain , the ACB league .

The Andorra national team was officially founded in 1988 and has been a member of FIBA since then . The team has not yet been able to participate in a major tournament. For this they won the gold medal four times at the FIBA European Championships for small countries , most recently in 2012. In addition, the team won a gold medal for Andorra in 1989 at the games of the small states of Europe .
