Clemens August von Ketteler
Clemens August von Ketteler (* December 15, 1720 ; † March 20, 1800 ) was canon in Münster , Worms and Osnabrück and also held important secular offices in the Münster bishopric .
Life
He came from the Westphalian noble family von Ketteler and was the son of Alexander Anton von Ketteler zu Harkotten and Maria Sophia (born von der Tinnen zu Möllenbeck).
Von Ketteler entered the clergy and was domicellar in Worms from 1733 . The preamble, which he resigned in 1748, he had received through the mediation of his great-uncle Christoph Joest von Ketteler (1651–1735), who himself officiated as cathedral capitular and canon dean in the prince-bishopric of Worms .
From 1746 Clemens August von Ketteler was canon in Münster after his brother had resigned from this office. On the basis of imperial intercession he also became canon in Osnabrück in 1751. He also resigned this post at an unclear time between 1771 and 1791. In addition, he belonged to the chapter of the Collegiate Foundation of the Old Cathedral in Münster . In this he was elected provost in 1753. From 1766 Clemens August von Ketteler officiated as chief foreman at the Münster Cathedral . In 1780 he became cathedral sexton and in 1782 cathedral provost in Münster. In 1788 he opted for the archdeaconate Billerbeck .
In addition, the cleric held important secular offices in the bishopric of Münster. He was a secret council , later president of the secret council, princely deputy at the Landpfennigkammer and princely state parliament commissioner. He was also Grand Cross Lord of the Order of St. Michael .
His epitaph can be found in Münster Cathedral.
The important Mainz bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler (1811–1877) is the great-grandson of his brother Goswin Lubbert von Ketteler zu Harkotten. The bishop's sister Maria Anna von Ketteler (1802–1884) is in turn the grandmother of the canonized Confessing Bishop and Cardinal Clemens August Graf von Galen (1878–1946).
