Christoph Joest von Ketteler zu Harkotten often also Christoph Jobst or Christophorus Jodocus (*  1661 ; †  January 5, 1735 ) was a canon at Worms Cathedral , whose epitaph of coat of arms has been preserved there.

origin

He came from the Westphalian noble family von Ketteler , line Harkotten and was the son of Caspar Heidenreich von Ketteler zu Harkotten and his wife Anna von Schade zu Salwey. His grandfather Goswin von Ketteler (1570–1646) was a canon in Münster .

Life

Christoph Joest von Ketteler embarked on a spiritual career, studied from 1679 at the University of Paderborn and in 1683 became cathedral chapter in Worms .

From 1715 until his death, von Ketteler also served as dean of the knight monastery in Wimpfen . As such, he was in contact with his contemporary, the historian Johann Friedrich Schannat , and provided him with information and documents about the history of the monastery. There he left 1725 a. a. make a ciborium with a dedication.

In 1733 he procured his great-nephew Clemens August von Ketteler (1720–1800), later cathedral provost in Münster , also a canon post in Worms. He was the grandson of his brother Goswin Caspar († 1719) and his wife Anna Dorothea von Korff-Schmising . His brother Johann Heidenreich (1669-1722) was a knight of the Teutonic Order . Christoph Joest von Ketteler zu Harkotten died in 1735 as the senior of the Worms cathedral chapter and was buried in the cathedral there, where he received a very elaborate and artistic coat of arms epitaph in the south transept. The inscription characterizes him as "humble and pious" .

The Mainz Bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler (1811–1877) is a direct descendant of his brother Goswin Caspar von Ketteler zu Harkotten (great-great-great-grandson). The bishop's sister Maria Anna von Ketteler (1802–1884) is in turn the grandmother of the canonized Confessing Bishop and Cardinal Clemens August Graf von Galen (1878–1946).
