Life

Origin and family

Goswin von Ketteler came from the Westphalian noble family von Ketteler , from which numerous well-known personalities emerged. He was born the son of Conrad Ketteler zu Middelburg and his wife Berta von Raesfeld zu Romberg (daughter of the Provost Goswin von Raesfeld ). They got married in 1554. His brother Rotger was canon in Hildesheim, his brother Caspar canon in Münster.

Act

Goswin completed his studies in Italy and was emancipated on January 6, 1601. He renounced on July 30, 1615 and married Christina von Korff (1600–1646, daughter of Johann von Korff (* 1574) and Christina von Nagel (* 1574)) on November 1, 1615. She was an heir daughter. Since the male line of the Korff-Schmising family had died out, their share of the inheritance came to the von Ketteler family through the marriage. The children Christine († 1690, ⚭ 1651 Nikolaus Henrich von Lüninck), Goswin Kaspar Heinrich (1625–1678, ⚭ Anna von Schade) and Johann (1630–1693, ⚭ Theodora Catharina von Schade) emerged from the marriage. His grandchildren Goswin Kaspar (1658–1719, representative in the state parliament), Johann Heidenreich (1669–1722, Commander of the Teutonic Order) and Christoph Joest (1661–1735, Canon in Münster) held important positions.
