Collegiate Foundation Alter Dom (Münster)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The collegiate foundation of the old cathedral in Münster ( vetus ecclesia sancti Pauli ) was founded by Bishop Burchard of Münster (1098–1118) at the first, Ludgerian, so-called “old” cathedral , after the cathedral chapter of Münster was already in the time of Bishop Dodos († 993) directly south of the Ludgerus Cathedral had moved. The monastery, endowed with twelve canons by Burchard, was closely related to the cathedral chapter in the areas of its personal organization and cult, which for example provided the provost of the old cathedral. After 1377 the Ludgerus Cathedral had to give way to the cloister of the New Cathedral; The "Old Dömer" first moved to the former episcopal chapel, soon afterwards to a new Gothic building northwest of the New Cathedral, which housed the chapter until it was repealed by the imperial decree of November 14, 1811.
