Gordan Giriček (born June 20, 1977 in Zagreb , SR Croatia ) is a former Croatian basketball player .
Career
Giriček started his career at KK Cibona Zagreb . While still at Cibona, Giriček was selected 40th in the 1999 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks , but stayed in Europe and in 2001 joined the Russian top club PBK CSKA Moscow . In this he scored an average of 22.9 points in 18 Euroleague games in the 2001/02 season . In 2002 he switched to the NBA to the Memphis Grizzlies , who now owned his rights. During the season he was transferred to the Orlando Magic , where he immediately got a lot of playing time. Giriček had a good rookie season and was called up to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . After another year in Orlando, Giriček was swapped for DeShawn Stevenson at Utah Jazz . He played in jazz for almost four years, where he mostly came off the bench as a dangerous three-shooter. In December 2007 he was suspended after a dispute with coach Jerry Sloan and a few days later sold to the Philadelphia 76ers for Kyle Korver . At the Sixers Giriček was fired after twelve games and joined the Phoenix Suns for the remainder of the season . After that Giriček received no engagement in the NBA and returned to Europe. He played for the Turkish club Fenerbahçe Ülker , which he left again in May 2010. In December 2010 he returned to Cibona and ended his career after one season.
National team
Giriček took part with the Croatian national team at the European Championships in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005. At the EM tournaments in 2001 and 2003 he was the second best and in 2005 the best scorer of his team.
