European basketball championship 2005 / qualification
This page describes the qualification for the men's basketball championship 2005 . A total of 34 national teams took part in the qualification for the 11 free places. A new qualification system was introduced as part of the qualification for the 2005 European Basketball Championship. The teams were in for a Division A and Division B divided. The stronger teams that played for the qualification for the European Championship were divided into Division A.
mode
A total of 16 teams took part in EuroBasket 2005 and qualified for the tournament in different ways:
- Serbia-Montenegro was automatically selected as the host.
- The five European participants in the basketball tournament of the 2004 Summer Olympics - Lithuania , Spain , Italy , Greece and Serbia-Montenegro (already qualified as hosts) were directly qualified for the EuroBasket 2005.
- The other eleven participants were under the Division A determined. Ten participants qualified in the first qualifying round of Division A. As the 16th and last team, Israel was able to secure participation in the European Championship in the additional qualifying tournament of Division A.
- Division B was played parallel to Division A. The first two in Division B ( Denmark and Macedonia ) will replace the two relegated teams from Division A ( Netherlands and Poland ) in the upcoming division A, which will be used to determine the participants in the 2007 European Championship .
Division A
Qualifying Round
In the qualifying round 19 teams were drawn in four groups of four teams and one group of three teams. The first two of the five groups qualify for the final tournament.

Additional Qualifying Round Games
In the additional qualifying round, the nine teams that have not yet qualified play in three groups of three teams. The first placed of the three groups qualify for the final round of the additional qualifying round. The third-placed play the two relegated teams in Division B.

Final round of the additional qualifying round (Additional Qualifying Tournament)
In the final round of the additional qualifying round, the top three of the additional qualifying round play for qualification for the European Championship finals. Only the winner of this round qualified as the last team.

Relegation Tournament
In the relegation round, the three third-placed players in the additional qualifying round will play to remain in Division A. Only the winner of this round will also play in the qualification for the 2007 European Basketball Championship in the top division. There the Swedish national team was able to secure the stay in Division A. The Netherlands and Poland will only play in Division B in qualifying for the 2007 European Championship.
Division B
In Division B which were Danish and the Macedonian team promotion to the Division A win.
