Bill Molenhof

Bill Molenhof (born January 2, 1954 in St. Louis ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone , marimbaphone , composition).

Career

Molenhof initially received piano lessons from an aunt who worked as a church musician. He was instructed on drums by William G. Clark of the St. Louis Symphony before studying with George Gaber at Indiana University .

He began working as a professional musician in 1974 when he toured with Wayne Johnson , Danny Gottlieb and singer Oleta Adams . The following year Gary Burton invited him to teach at Berklee College of Music ; During this time he performed with James Williams and Pat Metheny and wrote his composition collection Music for the Day . In 1976 he moved to New York, where he accompanied Jackie & Roy . He has also performed with Ruby Braff , Hank Roberts , Tim Berne , Zbigniew Namysłowski , Roberto Ottaviano and Keith Copeland . Since 1982 he has released several albums under his own name, most recently (2016) the album Jazz Winds of Patagonia with Gil Goldstein and Jeff Berlin . His composition Waltz King was also recorded by Alain Huteau / Michel Gastaud.

From 1983 he lived in Europe for twenty years, where he taught at the Nuremberg University of Music . He also taught at Ithaca College, Temple University, and the Manhattan School of Music .
