Jeff Berlin

Jeff Berlin (born January 17, 1953 in Queens (New York)) is an American electric bass player who is active in both fusion and modern jazz .

Career

He became known in the late 1970s as a musician with Bill Bruford and because of his brilliant pizzicato technique. He learned the violin as a child, but switched to the electric bass as a teenager and stayed there. He studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Berlin played with Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe , Patrick Moraz , Lew Soloff , Kazumi Watanabe and Allan Holdsworth , among others . After moving to Los Angeles, he tried to establish himself in the local studio scene. He became a lecturer at MIT / BIT and toured worldwide with various jazz greats. He moved to Florida in the 1990s .

Due to his son's serious cancer illness, he restricted his tour activities. Until a few years ago he taught at the [[Players School of Music]] in Florida, which he founded.

Berlin's style of playing has developed more and more towards modern jazz / bop in recent years and is characterized by partially polyphonic accompaniments and long, wind-like melodies.

He was and is an endorser for brands such as Yamaha , Peavey , Dean and Markbass .
