Owner family

ABUS August Bremicker Söhne KG and its subsidiaries are 100 percent in the hands of some members of the Bremicker family.

The company was founded in 1924 by locksmith August Bremicker with some of his sons. In the early days, his son Werner Bremicker worked alone in the company, while his brothers still went about their regular work.

Emma Bremicker was the first woman in sales at ABUS. She married August Bremicker, the company's founder, on September 20, 1910, and so took her place as the second wife and mother in a large family at a difficult time. She not only looked after the children from her husband's first marriage, but also drove through the Ruhr area with a sample case full of padlocks and sold them at the local hardware stores. Together with August Bremicker, she made a significant contribution to ABUS 'initial success.

When three brothers of Werner Bremicker lost their jobs in 1926, the young company had to support the families. Werner Bremicker emerged as a commercial head. He took over the commercial management of ABUS. His brother Gustav Bremicker developed new locks as a toolmaker. August Bremicker junior and Siegfried Bremicker had the main responsibility in the production, while August Bremicker senior supported his sons in an advisory capacity.

After the Second World War, the founder's sons Werner, August junior, Siegfried and Gustav Bremicker dared to start over in 1947 without their father, who died in 1938.

Since the end of the 1990s, it has been run by the fourth generation of the Bremicker family.

In the list of the 500 richest Germans published annually by manager magazin , the family is ranked 422 (2013). Manager magazin estimates the wealth of the entire family at 300 million euros, but reliable figures are not available.

The company owners appoint the management and shape a corporate philosophy that is based on the principles of Christian faith.

In a report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, some members are associated with the Brethren Movement , a free church movement that emerged in the 19th century . According to information from the Süddeutsche Zeitung, on June 25, 1983, a then ABUS shareholder concluded a so-called inheritance waiver agreement with his then 26-year-old daughter. However, equal participation of female family members in the company is basically possible; In the past, ABUS shareholders included women.
