Korobeiniki
Korobeiniki (also Korobeyniki or Korobus (c) hka ; Russian Коробейники - peddler (plural); also known as Tetris song or Tetris theme ) is a Russian song based on the poem of the same name written in 1861 by Nikolai Alexejewitsch Nekrasov (1821–1878 ) based. The poem was printed in the magazine Sowremennik that same year . Korobeiniki were peddlers who sold fabrics, haberdashery and books in pre-revolutionary Russia .
The lyrics describe a nocturnal quarrel between a young peddler and a dark-eyed Katja; the song quickly achieved the status of a Russian folk tune due to its catchy melody. It became known for its dance character and its steadily increasing tempo ( accelerando ).
In the German Bündische Jugend the melody became known as early as 1930 and was very freely underlaid with the text “Asia bebe!”.
Korobeiniki was heard as one of three selectable background melodies (the so-called Music A ) in Nintendo's Tetris for the Game Boy and thus became known almost overnight in the western world. Because of this, Korobeiniki is mostly associated with the puzzle game published in 1989. The song was also found in films such as Those Who Go Through Hell (Original title: The Deer Hunter ), Snatch - Pigs and Diamonds (played on a balalaika ), Agent Null Null Nix (Original title: The Man Who Knew Too Little ) Duel - Enemy at the gates use. The rock band Ozma covered Korobeiniki and released it on their 2002 album "The Doubble Donkey Disc". In the US television series House of Cards, the fictional Russian President Viktor Petrov (Lars Mikkelsen) sings the song during a meeting with Frank Underwood. Korobeiniki is also the theme song for the character Borat Sagdiyev from Da Ali G Show and was used by MC Lars as a template for his song "21 Concepts". In addition, there are countless techno and trance remixes by various artists from Korobeiniki .
