Life
Nekrasov was the son of an officer. At the age of 16 he left high school and entered the military, but then prepared for a degree at the request of his father. After failing the entrance exam, he was a guest student at the Philological Faculty of St. Petersburg University from 1839 to 1841. For financial reasons, he had to drop out of studies and then first eke out his life as a journalist. After the success of his first poems, he became an employee of the Otetschestvennye Sapiski , supported by Vissarion Belinsky . In 1846 he founded the short-lived magazine Peterburgski Sbornik , but in the same year he acquired the magazine Sowremennik , which he made into one of the leading publications of his time. In 1866 he had to sell the magazine, from 1875 he was seriously ill.
Dostoyevsky dedicated a detailed obituary to him in his writer's diary .
Nekrasov is considered the most important Russian realist poet. A large part of his poems deal with social issues, especially with the life of Russian peasants after the abolition of serfdom.
Nekrasov was even immortalized in silver on a modern Russian coin and the asteroid (2907) Nekrasov was named after him.
