Statista is a German online portal for statistics that makes data from market and opinion research institutions as well as from business and official statistics accessible in German, English, Spanish and French. It is one of the most successful statistical databases in the world. According to the company, there are over 1,000,000 statistics on over 80,000 topics from more than 22,500 sources on the platform. The company states that it covers around 170 different industries with its content. In 2019 Statista had more than 1.5 million registered users, with whom the company generated around 60 million euros in revenue. Statista has owned 81.3% of the shares in Ströer Media since 2015 .

Range of services

Statistics and survey results are offered and presented in diagrams and tables. The target groups are primarily business customers, teachers and researchers. The data offered include, for example, advertising , purchasing behavior or individual economic sectors.

The offer is divided into free and chargeable data. In order to use the data, registration as a user is necessary in any case, but result diagrams are visible even without registration. Users also have access to the Digital Market Outlook, Consumer Market Outlook and Mobility Market Outlook, which are based on population statistics and economic data and provide detailed insights into the development of the respective market. Detailed analyzes of consumer behavior and media usage are possible with the Global Consumer Survey.

In addition to numerous individual statistics, there is a study database that provides over 41,000 studies. Statista also offers its customers the option of commissioning specific studies via an analysis and research service, as well as creating individual infographics, videos or presentations and publications.

Statista has been selling free infographics since the end of 2011 . The graphics appear regularly on news sites such as Spiegel Online, FAZ, Forbes or Stern and are used by tech sites such as Winfuture, ZDNet or Chip.

The company was founded in 2007 by Friedrich Schwandt, Tim Kröger, Mattias Protzmann , Thilo Löwe and Hubert Jakob. It currently employs more than 600 people, including database experts, editors and statisticians. In addition to the German language offering, Statista also offers its data in English, French and Spanish. The headquarters are in the Brahms-Kontor in Hamburg on five floors (as of 2016), Statista has additional offices in New York, London, Paris and Singapore.

The portal's data partners include the Federal Statistical Office , the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy , the OECD , the German Institute for Economic Research and Crif Bürgel . Further partnerships exist with WELT, T-Online and the Handelsblatt publishing group .

Statista was named Start-Up of the Year by the deutsche-startups.de website in 2008 and was one of the winners of the Financial Times Deutschland's “Enable to Start” start-up competition in the same year . In 2010, the company was “chosen location 2010” in the “Germany Land of Ideas” initiative. It was also awarded the European Red Herring Prize 2010. In 2012 Statista was nominated for the German Entrepreneur Award in the category of climbers and in 2014 it was voted Best Database by the Library Journal.

At the end of 2015, Statista was bought by the advertising marketer Ströer Media .

According to the company, there were one million registered customers in 2016. The website is visited almost 7 million times a month. Since expanding into the United States, the company's annual turnover has grown to 14 million euros.
