Martin U. Müller (* 1981 in Berlin ) is a German journalist .

Life

Müller studied medicine as well as neuropsychology and the history of medicine. Then he attended the Henri Nannen School . Since 2009 he has been working for the Hamburg news magazine Der Spiegel .

Among other things, he deals with business and media reporting and is a member of the jury for the “ Journalist of the Year ” award , which is awarded by Medium Magazin .

Müller worked on investigative material several times, for example in the affair between Federal President Christian Wulff and the Berlin film financier David Groenewold , in the judicial case Jörg Kachelmann , in the scandal over the first-class upgrade in the Indian slums of the Bishop of Limburg, Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst , the real background to the bankruptcy of the airline Air Berlin or the methods of the hospital group Asklepios. Müller previously wrote texts for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Tagesspiegel, among others .

He is a member of the jury for the Spiegel student newspaper award and awarded the “Spiegel special award for the best journalistic achievement” in the federal council's student newspaper competition .

Awards

Together with Thomas Tuma , Müller received 3rd prize at the Helmut Schmidt Journalist Prize 2011 for the Spiegel article World Religion Shopping . Together with a team led by Thomas Tuma, he is the winner of the main print prize of the Friedrich and Isabel Vogel Prize for business journalism for a four-part series Germany, your rich . In 2012 he was also nominated for the German Journalist Prize in the Mobility and Logistics category for a report on frequent flyers and the Lufthansa HON Circle, and in 2013 in the Innovation and Sustainability category with a title on the topic of Big Data. In 2017 he and a team won first place in the Otto Brenner Prize for research on a sick house . He was also awarded the German Social Prize in 2017. A report by him on the future of medicine in the age of digitization made it onto the shortlist for the Ernst Schneider Prize 2018. Müller was awarded 1st prize at the Aerospace Media Prize 2018.
