Promedium Asset Management GmbH

In 2010, the Berlin regional court convicted Groenewold under civil law to pay a guarantee of 250,000 euros to a customer of Promedium Asset Management GmbH, in which he held a 50% stake. The company specialized in financial investments. Groenewold's business partner had betrayed the customer and forged documents without Groenewold's knowledge. A large part of the entrusted funds could not be repaid. Groenewold's business partner and managing director of the company was sentenced to four years in prison in 2007 for breach of trust and forgery of documents .

Connections to Christian Wulff

In the context of the Wulff affair about invitations and vacation trips of the former Prime Minister of Lower Saxony and Federal President Christian Wulff , various links between Wulff and Groenewold became known. Because of the initial suspicion of accepting and granting benefits, the Hanover public prosecutor's office began investigations by the public prosecutor on February 16, 2012 and applied for the waiver of immunity. A day later Christian Wulff resigned from his office.

On July 7, 2005, Groenewold invited around 150 guests, including numerous filmmakers and actors, to a festive dinner in the “China Lounge” in the Berlin Hotel Adlon “in honor of the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff”. The occasion was the award of the German Film Prize. In his dinner speech, Wulff demanded, in the spirit of the host, the receipt of tax subsidies for the German film.

Also in 2005, Groenewold placed a double-sided advertisement for 20,000 euros for the film Erkan & Stefan in The Death Comes Krass in the members' magazine of the Lower Saxony CDU - Magazin für Niedersachsen . The costs are seen as excessive in media circles.

Also in 2005 Groenewold paid the author Karl Hugo Pruys 10,000 euros . He initially stated that the work on a biography about Christian Wulff was rewarded. Pruys later retracted this statement.

In 2006, Groenewolds Odeon Film received a Lower Saxony state guarantee for four million euros through the letterbox company "Waterfall Productions GmbH". Waterfall Productions never made a film and was deleted from the commercial register of the Hanover District Court in 2010.

In 2007 Groenewold paid the bill for the Wulff family to stay at the Hotel Stadt Hamburg on Sylt . According to information from Wulff's lawyer Gernot Lehr , Wulff Groenewold is said to have reimbursed the costs later in cash.

In 2008 Groenewold paid part of the hotel costs for the Wulff family for a stay at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich during the Oktoberfest .

On April 12, 2013, the Hanover Public Prosecutor brought charges of bribery and corruption at the Hanover Regional Court against Wulff and Groenewold. The court admitted the indictment on August 27, 2013, but reduced the allegation to granting and accepting benefits . On February 27, 2014, like his co-defendant Wulff, he was acquitted, but cautioned because of a false affidavit . The public prosecutor's office appealed against the judgment on March 5, 2014, but withdrew it on June 13, so that the acquittal is final .
