Kurt Groenewold

Kurt Groenewold (born April 3, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and author .

Life

Groenewold has been a lawyer since 1965, particularly as a criminal defense lawyer in political criminal proceedings. His clients came from the APO and RAF ; Groenewold was one of Andreas Baader's three defense lawyers during the Stammheim trial . Together with Hans Christian Ströbele , he set up the information system for the defense of the RAF prisoners. Against this background, criminal proceedings were initiated against him in 1975 and a temporary ban on the profession was imposed. In 1969 he was the defender of Ernst Schnabel after the tumult during the failed world premiere of Hans Werner Henze's oratorio Das Raft der Medusa . In 1974 Groenewold represented the writer Erich Fried in proceedings for insulting the Berlin police. In 1984 he defended Konrad Kujau in the trial of the forged Hitler diaries .

Groenewold is a co-founder of the Hamburg Defense Lawyers Association (1973), the Republican Lawyers Association (1979) and founder of the criminal defense lawyer magazine (1982). He has also written various publications on legal history topics.

Groenewold represents writers and artists in legal matters and is, among other things, executor of Erich Fried , Hans Mayer and actress Käthe Reichel . He was chairman of the International Erich Fried Society for Literature and Language / Vienna and is a member of the executive committee and member of the executive committee of the Hanns Eisler Society . Groenewold was a partner in the publishers Europäische Verlagsanstalt / Rotbuch Verlag / Verlag Die Hanse .

Together with his siblings, Groenewold is a partner in the Friedrich G. Groenewold heirs. The film producer David Groenewold was his nephew.
