G8 summit
During the G8 summit in Heiligendamm in 2007 , members of the RAV were part of a legal team , an association of lawyers that observed the demonstrations and took on the function of an association's own emergency lawyer service during the demonstrations around the summit. After the summit, the RAV filed a complaint about the inhumane treatment of prisoners and complained about the use of plainclothes police as agents provocateurs . The Legal Team was honored with the “pro reo” award for “its outstanding services in carrying out an emergency lawyer service” by the Criminal Law Working Group of the German Lawyers' Association (DAV). In December 2007, the legal team also received the Carl von Ossietzky Medal from the Berlin International League for Human Rights for this mission .
G20 summit
At the G20 summit in Hamburg 2017 , the RAV also offered an emergency lawyer service for arrested demonstrators and announced in advance that it would consistently oppose Hartmut Dudde's “ Hamburg line ” . The Hamburg police later announced that the club was “dangerously far to the left”. A curiosity, since Hamburg's mayor Olaf Scholz is a member of the association himself.
