Karl Hugo Pruys (born March 8, 1938 in Herne ) is a German journalist , communication scientist and writer , mainly of non-fiction books.

Life

After attending the modern high school in his hometown, Karl Hugo Pruys studied sociology and journalism in Saarbrücken , Münster and Göttingen .

The first success as an author came in 1969 with the publication of the dtv dictionary on journalism, which up to that point had no predecessor. The book was based on his concept (press historian Kurt Koszyk in Dortmund worked as a collaborator ). The dtv “Dictionary for Journalism” achieved five editions. They were followed in 1980 by the dtv “Handbuch der Massenkommunikation” (both also available as hardcover from Verlag Documentation Saur , Munich). Both titles are still considered to be "standard works in the media subject" (Prof. W. Langenbucher in the FAZ).

After an internship as an editor and correspondent for regional and national newspapers, including the daily newspaper Die Welt , the Stuttgarter Zeitung , the Münchner Merkur and the Frankfurter Neue Presse , between 1968 and 1972 he worked as an editor for features and documentaries at Deutsche Welle in Cologne.

From 1973 to 1977 there was a temporary change to the headquarters of the Federal CDU. There Pruys was press spokesman for the chairman Helmut Kohl . In 1995 he published a biography about Helmut Kohl. From 1978 to 1986 he was Bonn correspondent for the Münchner Merkur. He then became a freelance journalist and author, among other things of language-critical books and biographies.
