Juan Carlos Navarro Feijoo (born June 13, 1980 in Sant Feliu de Llobregat , Catalonia ) is a former Spanish basketball player who played mainly for FC Barcelona during his career . He is one of the most successful and most awarded players in European basketball. He owes his nickname La Bomba (the bomb) to a throw that was characteristic of him, in which he threw the ball into the basket with one hand from the middle distance in a high arc over the opponent.
career
society
Navarro began his career at the basketball club in his hometown, CB Santfeliuenc , from where he moved to the youth team at FC Barcelona at the age of 11 . He made his first-team debut on November 23, 1997 in a league game against CB Granada . Although he was only used sporadically in the first team in his first season, his outstanding talent was quickly recognized.
In his second year as a professional, he won the championship and the Korać Cup with FC Barcelona in 1998/99 . In 2000/01 he and his team won the league and cup double and in 2002/03 the league, cup and EuroLeague triple . In 2005/06 he was appointed as the best shooting guard in the All-Euroleague team for the first time and was elected MVP of the Spanish league in the same year .
In the summer of 2007, Navarro, who was drafted by the Washington Wizards in 2002 , decided to move to the North American professional league NBA to the Memphis Grizzlies , where his former teammate and friend Pau Gasol was also under contract. Although he had a good season when one of the top debutants was allowed to compete in the 2008 Rookie Challenge and was elected to the All-Rookie Second Team at the end of the season , Navarro decided to return to FC Barcelona.
At Barça further Spanish championship titles followed in 2008/09 and 2010/11, he was also able to conquer the EuroLeague 2009/10 and was elected MVP of the Final Four. Navarro played his 253rd EuroLeague game on March 14, 2014 and has since been the player with the most appearances.
In mid-August 2018, he announced his retirement from professional sport.
National team
Even as a junior, Navarro was able to celebrate numerous successes with the national team as part of the Spanish "Golden Generation". In 1998 he won the gold medal with his country at the U-18 European Championship and only one year later he also won the title at the U-19 World Cup with a 94-87 final triumph over the USA. Navarro himself was voted MVP of the tournament with an average of 18.6 points and 2.1 assists per game.
His debut in the senior team celebrated Navarro on 18 August 2000 in a friendly against Lithuania . Since then he has not missed a final tournament. His greatest successes are winning the basketball world championship in 2006 as well as the European titles in 2009 and 2011 , where he was elected MVP of the tournament. In addition, he won the silver medal with Spain at the 2008 Olympic Games .
