Tyrese Rice (born May 15, 1987 in Richmond , Virginia ) is a Montenegrin - American basketball player . He has been a professional in Europe since he finished his studies in his home country in 2009 and is currently under contract with Panathinaikos Athens . With the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, Rice won a triple crown from the national double and the ULEB Euroleague 2013/14 in 2014 , where he was named MVP of the Final Four tournament. He received this award in the jersey of BK Chimki as the best player of the Eurocup 2014/15 over the entire season and especially in the final series, when the Russian team won the title in the two finals.

Career

Rice moved in 2005 after graduating from LC Bird High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia on the outskirts of Richmond to study at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts . There he played for the college team Eagles in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the NCAA . In the first year Rice reached the championship finals of the ACC together with, among others, the later NBA professional Jared Dudley , which was lost against the renowned and nationally number 1 Blue Devils of Duke University with two points difference. In the nationwide finals of the NCAA 2006 you reached the second round Sweet Sixteen , in which you were defeated against the nationwide number 3 Wildcats of Villanova University after extra time. Up to 2008 they also reached the NCAA finals in the following, but retired early in a second round defeat in 2007 and a first round defeat in 2009. As of 2012, Rice was ranked fifth among the Eagles' best point collectors with 2,099 points and an average of almost 16 points per game in his four-year college career, and was three times in a row, having been voted into the selection of the ACC's best freshmen in his debut season Appointed to the selection of the ten best ACC players in the “First Team” or “Second Team” of the Conference.

After Rice was not selected in the Entry Draft 2009 for the highest endowed professional league NBA , he began his career in Europe with Panionios Athens in the Greek A1 Ethniki . Panionios reached eighth in the main round just now in the play-offs for the Greek championship 2010, in which one was eliminated in the first round against series champion Panathinaikos Athens . For the following season 2010/11 Rice moved to the German Bundesliga to the Artland Dragons . The Dragons reached the semi-final series of the play-offs, in which they were defeated defending champion Brose Baskets in just five games . Rice was invited to the BBL All-Star Game 2011 and set the season's record in this category with an effectiveness value of 43 on matchday 26 . At the end of the season, appointed to the “BBL-All-Second Team” among the top ten players of the season.

For the 2011/12 season Rice moved to Lithuania to Lietuvos rytas Vilnius . At the beginning of the season they lost the final match in the qualification for the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 in front of their own audience against Galatasaray Istanbul and then started the Eurocup 2011/12 , in which they again reached the Final Four tournament as a two-time cup winner. After a semi-final defeat against Valencia Basket Club they won the game for third place against Spartak St. Petersburg . In the national competitions and in the Baltic Basketball League , the club again had to give way to long-term rivals Žalgiris Kaunas . Only in the VTB United League 2011/12 could they place before Kaunas, but lost the semifinals in the Final Four tournament of this competition against the Russian series champion CSKA Moscow . The small final against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar could then be won again and took third place in this Eastern European competition. For the following season 2012/13 Rice moved together with his teammate Lawrence Roberts to the German first division club Bayern Munich , who had, however, waived in advance to participate in European club competitions. In his second season in Germany, Rice was again elected to the "All-BBL Second Team" among the ten best players of the past season.

After only one year in Munich, Rice left Germany again and moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel . In July 2013 he received a Montenegrin passport and then took part in the EuroBasket 2013 with Montenegro . In the 2013/14 season Rice reached the final of the ULEB Euroleague with Maccabi . He won this with his team with 98:86. Rice was the standout player of the final, scoring 26 points. Following the final, he was named MVP of the Final Four. After the title in the national cup competition, they also won the Israeli championship and thus a triple crown for the 51st time at the end of the season . A year later, Rice was also able to win another European title in the jersey of BK Chimki in the Eurocup 2014/15 , when the team dominated the finals against the Spanish representative Herbalife Gran Canaria . Rice was also named MVP of the Finals after being named MVP of the Eurocup season.

From 2016 to January 2018 Rice played for FC Barcelona in the Spanish ACB and the EuroLeague , before signing a contract with the Shenzhen Leopards in China until the end of the season. He then signed a contract with Brose Bamberg for the 2018/19 season . He competed with the team in the Bundesliga and the Champions League . In the Bundesliga, he was the best Bamberg scorer of the 2018/19 season with 15.9 points per game, and he also prepared 6.4 scoring hits from teammates per match, which was Bamberg's highest score this season. In the Champions League he got 16.4 points per game and was named the best player of the season in the European club competition.

At the beginning of July 2019, Rice was signed by the Greek top team Panathinaikos Athens .
