William Dalen "Will" Clyburn (born May 17, 1990 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Clyburn became a professional in Europe in 2013, where he initially played for two years in the basketball Bundesliga for the German first division club ratiopharm Ulm . After a season in Israel , Clyburn played for the Euroleague club Darüşşafaka Doğuş from Turkey in the 2016/17 season . For the 2017/18 season he moved to the Russian top club CSKA Moscow .

Career

Clyburn went to college in his hometown to study at the community college in Marshalltown , Iowa , where he played for the college team Tigers in the "National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association" (NJCAA). After two years he switched to further studies at the University of Utah , where he played for the university team Utes in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) of the NCAA . After a season in which the Utes did not qualify for a postseason tournament with a negative season record, Clyburn decided, as the top scorer and best rebounder of his team, to change universities, although he had to take a year off from championship games due to the change according to the NCAA regulations . He returned to Iowa, where he played at Iowa State University for the college team Cyclones in the Big 12 Conference . In the national NCAA finals, the Cyclones were eliminated in the second round against the favored Buckeyes of Ohio State University by just three points. In his last NCAA season, Clyburn was voted “Newcomer of the Year” for the Big 12 and among the ten best players of the Big 12 season in the “All-Big 12 Second Team”.

In the NBA Draft 2013 of the highest endowed professional league NBA , Clyburn was not selected. But he was allowed to play in the NBA Summer League for the Sacramento Kings and, after he did not get a contract there for the season, signed his first professional contract with the German first division club ratiopharm from Ulm . With this team he reached the round of 16 in the European club competition Eurocup 2013/14 , which was lost to Hapoel Jerusalem . In the Beko BBL-Pokal 2014 in its own hall, they defeated the Bundesliga main round first Bayern Munich in the semifinals , but then lost in a new edition of the previous year's final against defending champion Alba Berlin , who ratiopharm also won the main round sixth in the first round of the championship play-offs in basketball -Bundesliga 2013/14 thrown out of the running for the title.

Clyburn was invited to the NBA Summer League again in 2014, where he was allowed to play for the Los Angeles Clippers . This engagement also resulted in no contract for the season and he continued to play for ratiopharm Ulm in the 2014/15 basketball Bundesliga . At the beginning of January 2015 he was selected as an All-Star in the starting line-up of the BBL All-Star Game . In front of a “home” audience in the ratiopharm Arena , Clyburn was able to win this competition this time after finishing second in the previous year in the supporting program of this event at the dunking contest. After the Ulm team was eliminated very early in the EuroChallenge 2014/15 , it was enough in the play-offs for the championship to move into the semi-finals, in which they remained without a win against the main round first and later title winner Brose Baskets .

For the following 2015/16 season Clyburn moved to the Israeli Ligat ha'Al to Hapoel from Cholon . The previous year's main round third reached only the tenth and third from bottom place in the table at the end of the season. Clyburn himself scored more than 20 points per game, the best of all players in the Israeli league and was appointed to the "second team" of the ten best players of the season. He recommended himself for the Turkish club Darüşşafaka Doğuş in Istanbul , which also has a wildcard for the EuroLeague 2016/17 , and where Clyburn ousted his former Bundesliga opponent Reggie Redding , who returned to the German league. After only one season he moved to CSKA Moscow and continues to play there today.
