The Deseret News is a daily newspaper from Salt Lake City , the capital of the US state Utah . It is Utah's longest continuously published newspaper and has the second highest daily circulation in Utah after the Salt Lake Tribune . Deseret News is owned by Deseret News Publishing Company , which is part of Deseret Management Corporation , a financial holding company owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( Mormons ).

As a rule, the political direction of the editorial team is described as moderate to conservative, according to the values represented by its owner, the LDS church. For example, the newspaper does not accept advertisements that violate the rules of the religious community.

For example, the editorial team takes a clear stand against single parents and extra-marital sex by adolescents, which, according to scientific findings, leads to depression and suicidal thoughts.
