Basketballer of the Year is an award given annually in basketball , comparable to the cross-sport award for Sportsman of the Year .
Germany
The player of the year in the men's league basketball league , who has been elected by the coaches of the Bundesliga clubs and over 30 media representatives since 2006, as well as the women's basketball league is considered basketball player of the year in Germany. Therefore, players with foreign citizenship can also be elected.
The award was previously given by fans in Germany; initially by the readers of the professional magazine Basketball , then by voting on the Internet. There are currently several awards for the best European player of the year. The Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport presents the “European Player of the Year” (also “Europlayer” and “Euroscar”) awards. The jury is made up of trainers, players and sports journalists from 14 countries. The European continental association FIBA Europa has chosen the FIBA Europe Player Of The Year since 2005 . Experts (international media representatives, coaches and players) as well as the fans vote here on the respective winners. The oldest award of 1976 by the Italian magazine until 2010 Super Basket assigned Mister Europe . All three awards are given to the best players from Europe regardless of where they play.

The best players are also recognized in other countries and leagues, the best known being the MVP awards (“most valuable players”) of the NBA.
