The TV 1872 Saarlouis (Turnverein 1872 Saarlouis eV) was originally founded as a pure gymnastics club. Today it is a multi-discipline club with 15 departments that offers the following sports and exercise fields: Artistry, badminton, baseball, basketball, fitness & health, gymnastics, gymnastics, hockey, coronary sports, weight training, cancer aftercare, athletics, swimming, skiing, sports badges, trampoline gymnastics and Volleyball.

With 1850 members it is one of the largest associations in the region. More than 70 instructors and trainers in the areas of children, youth, active people and senior citizens are involved in both popular and health sports as well as top-class sports.

With the " TV Saarlouis Hornets " (baseball men) and the "TV Saarlouis Royals" (basketball women) two departments of the club are represented in the first German leagues.

Women's basketball

The TV Saarlouis Royals from Saarlouis play basketball in the DBBL Women's Basketball Bundesliga . In the summer of 2007 the license to operate the Royals women was transferred to the "Royals Basketball GmbH & Co KG".

Until their relegation in 2012, the Saarlouis Royals were the longest-serving team in the DBBL after BC Marburg . They were the youngest team in the league in the 2007/08 season with an average age of 21 years.

Home games are played in the Stadtgartenhalle in Saarlouis. The hall offers space for more than 2000 spectators with stands on both sides of the field, making it the largest venue in the league. The royals share the use with the local handball team of HG Saarlouis, which go to work in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Since handball players usually play on Saturday evenings, while basketball players play on Sunday afternoons, there are rarely any scheduling problems.

The best placement in the Bundesliga was initially second places in 2007 and 2008 after the main round. In 2004 and 2007 third places could be achieved in the subsequent playoffs. In 2008 the team lost the final series against Wasserburg and became runner-up. In the cup competition from 2004 to 2006 the second place was achieved three times in a row, in 2007 they finished third. In 2008, the team reached the cup finals for the fifth time in a row, the so-called TOP4, and after winning the 84:74 final over series winner TSV Wasserburg, they secured their first title in the club's history. In 2009 the team repeated this success in Oberhausen with an 88:46 success in the final against the relegated ChemCats Chemnitz . The third cup win in a row came in 2010 in their own hall again against Wasserburg.

In the Bundesliga season 2008/09 the Royals took first place at the end of the main round with two points ahead of defending champion Wasserburg. After a home defeat in the first play-off quarter-final against Göttingen , the team improved and won the series with 2-1 victories. In the semifinals Oberhausen was defeated in two games. The final series against TSV Wasserburg was ultimately decided by the home advantage that the Royals brought with them from the main round. Both teams won their home games. The Royals celebrated their first German championship in the decisive fifth game in front of 2,200 spectators in the local Stadtgartenhalle after the 76:66 success.

In the following season, the Royals went into the playoffs again as first in the main round and won the first two rounds with 2-0 victories each. In the final, the team lost the two opening games on the first weekend, but was then able to turn the series again and force the decisive fifth game. This encounter went into extra time, where Stina Barnert then made a significant contribution to the victory with eight successful free throws. That was the only time that a team could turn a 2-0 deficit into a win in the final.

After numerous departures and various problems, the Royals were last in the first division in 2012 and were relegated to the second division. There they succeeded in the immediate rise as the main round first and without defeat in the playoffs against TSV Viernheim and the Grüner Stern Keltern. Much more impressive, however, was reaching the cup final after victories over the future German champions TSV Wasserburg and then the SV Halle Lions , who later came second in the main round. The second division could not secure the final round and met defending champion evo NB Oberhausen in the semi-finals. Despite a ten-point lead at halftime, the outsider still lost out, but was able to win the game for third place on the second day and thus secure the bronze medal.

As a climber, the Royals were able to reach the cup final in 2014 and were subject to TSV 1880 Wasserburg . In 2015, the club reached the play-off final for the German championship and was defeated there by TSV 1880 Wasserburg in three games, two of which were only decided in extra time. On May 7, 2015, the association announced that the contract with the head coach René Spandauw, who has been in office since 2004 , will not be extended. Instead of him, the Lithuanian Saulius Vadopalas took over the coaching post. Vadopalas led the team to the runner-up in the 2015/16 season. It was already clear before the lost finals against Wasserburg that the coach and club would split up at the end of the 2015/16 season. From May 2016 to December 2017, Hermann Paar was the coach. His previous assistant Marc Hahnemann then looked after the Saarlouis women until the end of the 2017/18 season.

In April 2018, the Czech Ondrej Sykora was introduced as the new head coach of the Royals. In December 2018, the league management sentenced Saarlouis to a deduction of five points, which slipped to the bottom of the table. According to the league, Saarlouis' Nadjeschda Ilmberger had played without permission. The Arbitration Court of the League Association rejected Saarlouis' objection. At the end of the season, the sporty DBBL descent was certain, Saarlouis announced that it would take legal action against the point deduction. After Eintracht Braunschweig withdrew, they ultimately remained in the top German division. From August 2019 they played as inexio Royals Saarlouis after the naming rights had been sold. The coat of arms was also changed in this context and the company name was added. At the end of September 2009, coach Sykora was given leave of absence due to the tense sporting situation. The previous assistant coach Gabriela Chnapkova initially looked after the team. In January 2020 Hahnemann took over the coaching position again.
