Women's basketball

He has achieved national fame through his successful women's basketball team . In 2007 the team was promoted to the 1st women's basketball division ( DBBL ), but was only able to take the last place in the 2007/2008 season. Herne did not have to relegate, however, as one team had not started enough in the 2007/2008 season and another team withdrew in the following season. So with the whereabouts of Hernes the target strength of the league could be maintained. At the end of the 2010/2011 season, however, the Herner TC took last place in the table and had to move into the 2nd division. Since the 2012/2013 season, the Herne women have been playing in the first Bundesliga again and were able to achieve their greatest success to date with third place in the 2013/14 season.

In the 2018/2019 season, the Herner TC was first in the main round in the first Bundesliga, won the German championship after winning the play-offs and won the DBBL Cup. The “double” of championship and cup victory were the first victories for a Herne sports team in national competitions.
