The 1st women's basketball league is the highest league in German women's basketball . It is administered by DBBL GmbH .

competition

In the 1st women's basketball league, up to twelve teams compete against each other and determine the German champions and two relegated teams. In the Bundesliga round, everyone plays against everyone with return legs. Until 2014, the first day of the match was often played entirely at the so-called season opening at one venue.

Relegated

The last two placed in the Bundesliga round are relegated to the 2nd DBBL .

German champions

The first eight of the Bundesliga final table then play the play-offs . Until the semi-finals, these are contested in the knockout system in the best-of-three mode , that is, the team that scores two wins first has won, the other is eliminated. The first place in the Bundesliga round plays against the eighth placed, the second placed against the seventh placed etc. Home rights change, the team placed further up in the Bundesliga round has home rights in the first game. The final will then be played in the best-of-five mode , so the German champions will be the team that wins three final wins first.
