German women's basketball championship 1959

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German women's basketball championship in 1959 was held for the first time according to a new set of rules, according to which the German champion was determined in the knockout system until the final, instead of in tournament form . This ensured that each regional association could have a maximum of one final player and is referred to as “Lex Heidelberg” in view of the dominance of the Heidelberg clubs in previous years.

The final for the 13th German women's basketball champion took place on May 9, 1959 in the Sheridan barracks in Augsburg . Heidelberger TV prevailed for the fifth time in a row and defeated VfL Lichtenrade with 61:45 (24:18). The best player in the final was the Hungarian national player Maria Biller (née Nagy), who, as in the previous year, scored 33 points for the Heidelberg team. Heidelberger TV qualified as German champions for the 1959/60 European Cup .
