USC Freiburg is the largest basketball club in Germany in terms of members and team numbers and also has the largest youth department. This is primarily a result of the intensive youth work, in 40 youth teams playing, new talents can get the finishing touches in training sessions with the coach of the first men's team. The results of this youth work are clear: Michael Schwarz , Robert Maras , Zvonimir Paradzik , Olaf Hollenkamp , Philip Gabriel , Patrick Kodjoe , Jens Temme and Pascal Roller played for the USC Freiburg in the first Bundesliga and also mostly made it into the youth national Teams. In addition, they now know how to successfully assert themselves in other top teams. In 2006 the USC was one of the founding members of the Junior Basketball League (NBBL). After the 2007/2008 season, the team could not qualify for further stay. In the 2010/2011 season, the USC was again represented in the JBBL as well as in the WNBL (Female Junior Basketball League), which was introduced last year. In addition, the USC is represented in the U14, U16 and U18 age groups by a league team each.

In the 1996/97 season, the men's team rose under the direction of coach Petar Jurić in the basketball league . In 2011, the men's team managed to stay in the second division ( ProA ), but could not get a license for administrative reasons as well as for the third division ProB . Therefore, the fourth division (1st Regionalliga Southwest) was played in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, before the voluntary relegation to the fifth division (2nd Regionalliga Southwest-South) followed in 2013. After the 2013/14 season, he was relegated to the Oberliga Baden, from where it went back to the second regional league (formerly Regionalliga Südwest-Süd) for one season (2015/16) after the 2014/15 season. In May 2016 it went back to the major league, which meant the second team of the USC going to the national league.
