The youth basketball league ( JBBL ) is the highest German basketball league for players under the age of 16 (U16). It serves to promote young talent. The main focus of this league is to enable the players to have additional match practice at a high level against about equally strong youngsters.

The league has equal rights with the youth basketball league , but is below the age of the players. The JBBL enables an early concentration of performance and the accumulation of talents in order to increase the range of high-performance young players for the NBBL.

history

In the 2009/2010 season, JBBL started the first season together with the WNBL as a joint project of the Basketball Bundesliga , the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga and the DBB . For the first season 48 teams were selected by a league committee. As of January 31, 2009, 69 teams had applied to participate.

Principles

In order to guarantee the goal of promoting young people, the teams can form syndicates and use players from third clubs. The NBBL has shown that this succeeds differently in the individual regional groups. Since the JBBL, like the NBBL, is only additive, the players also take part in normal league operations depending on their level of performance.
