Marin Petrić (born February 21, 1980 in Neumünster ) is a German basketball coach and player of Croatian descent. He played 49 games in the basketball league . Petric is currently playing for the OrangeAcademy from Ulm, in the 2nd basketball league (Pro B Süd).

Career

Petrić grew up temporarily in Croatia, then played in the youth teams of Bayer Leverkusen and was later pulled up into the Bundesliga squad of the then record champions. From the BBL season 1998/99 he was used in individual games in the basketball Bundesliga . In 2000 he moved to Bamberg , where he was a double license in the squad of the first division club TSK and its cooperation partner TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach from the second division . He did not play a game in the first division in the 2000/01 BBL season , but he was runner-up in the second division south with TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach. In the following season he returned to Leverkusen , where he signed a contract with Bayer Leverkusen and began training at Bayer at the same time. Since he got no playing time here either, he moved to the second division club Düsseldorf Magics in 2002 , where his shares increased and he became a regular player. He probably had his best playing time in the second division season 2005/06 , when he scored 16 points and almost 3 assists per game and was named Player of the Month in the 2nd BBL Group North in January 2006.

After the end of the 2005/06 season, the Magics and Petrić could not agree on a contract extension, so he moved to Switzerland to the champions from Boncourt . In January 2007 he returned to Grevenbroich in the Rhineland , but could not prevent the BSG from being relegated from the second division. Subsequently, he was initially registered with the regional league team Capone Düsseldorf , but moved abroad again in the 2007/08 season, this time in the fifth Spanish EBA league for CB Aridane on La Palma . In January 2008 he got a contract in the LEB Bronce, the fourth division, with CB Promobys from Tíjola in the Andalusian province of Almería . In the coming season he returned to Germany, where he was signed by the ProB division USC Freiburg. In the 2009/10 season , the former first division USC played, although not athletically qualified, a class higher in the ProA .

In the summer break of 2010 he was given the opportunity to play a class higher and return to the BBL in Düsseldorf. The first division license of his former club Giants from Leverkusen was sold in 2008 together with part of the team to Dusseldorf and had ousted the second division Magics, but was after the messed up BBL season 2009/10 , which sported a relegation place and the bankruptcy of previous sponsoring company ended in upheaval. After the first division could only be secured by purchasing a wild card and the personnel at both management and player level changed almost completely, Petrić was a link to past times in Düsseldorf basketball.

Petrić broke his foot at the beginning of the 2010/11 season and could only be used again after four months in mid-February. Subsequently, despite the long injury break, he became a valuable player in his team's rotation and increased his playing time to an average of just under 14 minutes, which rose to 25 minutes in the last three matches. He achieved his season best against the BBC Bayreuth when he was the Rhinelander's best shooter with 15 points. During his injury time he assisted trainer Murat Didin in training. At the end of the season the Giants actually had to relegate this time as bottom of the table. The team had to be almost completely rebuilt again, but still went into the ProA 2011/12 with hopes of promotion , where they only barely reached the play-offs for promotion and were inferior to the Kirchheim Knights in the decisive play-off round . Petrić was able to confirm the statistical values that he had achieved two years earlier at USC Freiburg and achieved a double-digit point yield on average, despite a slightly reduced working time compared to his time in Freiburg. In the ProA 2012/13 the athletic advancement succeeded when they were able to prevail in the play-offs and only lost the final series against fellow promoted SC Rasta Vechta . However, the club did not receive a license for the top division and in a review, the club was finally revoked the license for the previous ProA division. Petrić got at the beginning of the following season a fixed-term contract with the first division club TBB Trier as a replacement for the injured Anthony Canty .

For the 2014/2015 season Petrić did not receive a new contract in Trier and then moved to the RheinStars Cologne in the 1st Regionalliga West , with which he achieved promotion to the 2nd basketball league . There you received a wildcard for the next higher class ProA and Petrić missed the play-offs for promotion to the top division in twelfth place with promoted RheinStars in the ProA 2015/16 only because of the poorer direct comparison . Subsequently, his contract in Cologne was not renewed again, whereupon Petrić moved one class lower to the ProB 2016/17 to the ScanPlus Baskets in Elchingen , which had already played first-class in the 1990s. In the 2017/18 season he won the championship title in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB with the Elchers, who had already declared before reaching the final that they had not applied for a ProA license. Petrić was used in 30 encounters on the way to the title and averaged six points per game.

Petrić got into the coaching business and in 2019 took over the office of the U16 team of the Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm . He also runs for the Ratiopharm Ulm farm team, which bears the name OrangeAcademy and plays in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga (Pro B Süd).
