ProA 2010/11

Basketball Bundesliga 2011/12

The 2011/12 season is the fifth season of the German ProA basketball division . The ProA is the first season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The regular season began on September 24, 2011 and ended on March 31, 2012. The play-offs for promotion and the championship title, which were held for the first time, lasted from April 5, 2012 to May 6, 2012

mode

16 teams took part in the league and played a regular season as a round-robin tournament in the "everyone against everyone" mode with a return game. The eight best-placed teams in the final table played out two finalists in the play-offs in the "Best-of-Five" mode , who thus acquired the athletic right to participate in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), which they acquired when a BBL license was granted Based on economic and infrastructural criteria eligible for promotion to the BBL. The finalists also played the champions of this league in two legs. The two worst teams relegated to the lower season ProB of the second division.

conditions

As in the previous season, the participating teams had to prove a minimum budget of 350,000 euros and a venue with a capacity for 1,500 spectators.

During the game, two German players per team always had to stand on the field, the German players were marked with a German flag on their jerseys.

A maximum of 18 players per season and team could be used. At least nine of them had to be German citizens. Of the maximum of twelve players that could be used per game, at least six had to be German. There were double licenses for players in the U24 age group with the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and for U22 players from the regional leagues (and below). These players were not among the 18 maximum players that could be used, but they were part of the national quota (provided they are German).

Season Notes

  • The Giants Düsseldorf and Mitteldeutsche BC (MBC) were relegated from the 2010/11 basketball Bundesliga .
  • The climbers from the ProB 2010/11 were: erdgas Ehingen / Urspringschule and the BG Leitershofen / Stadtbergen as well as "successors" of the Nuremberg BC , all from the ProB group south
  • Despite athletic qualifications and preliminary licensing, the Dragons Rhöndorf and UBC Hannover Tigers waived further participation in the ProA and played in the ProB 2011/12 . Since there was only one successor with the Nuremberg BC, the ProA played with only fifteen teams this season.
  • When awarding points for the table, only two victory points were counted, individual points for defeats were no longer awarded.
  • Only four ProA clubs took part in the BBL licensing process during the season. After the BG Karlsruhe missed the play-offs, they withdrew from the licensing process. In the licensing process, only first division relegated MBC received the necessary license for promotion and was thus the only participant in the play-offs who could actually earn promotion rights.
  • After the end of the main round, a "postseason" was played for the first time, which had last existed in the original 2nd basketball league until 2000 in the form of promotion and relegation rounds and in the 1990s also in the form of relegation rounds First division. As in the previous year in the ProB 2010/11 were "Best-of-Five" - Play-offs introduced between the best eight teams in the ProA final table that two athletic teams as well as justifiable rise in a final-and-away the Proa Master 2012 determined.
  • First division relegated MBC was first in the main round and reached the final of the play-offs, in which they just prevailed in the final second leg in front of a home crowd with 81:73 and an added advantage of only two points against the Kirchheim Knights . For the MBC it was the second ProA championship after 2009; He is the first team to win the championship for the second time in five ProA events.
  • On the 13th matchday in the 92:90 away win at the Crailsheim Merlins , Gary Johnson of the Chemnitz Niners scored the first and only triple double of the season on December 3, 2011 with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. In the double doubles , Justin Howard of the BG Karlsruhe led the statistics with 15 in 25 games.
