ProB 2017/18

ProA 2018/19
1st regional league ↓

The 2018/19 season was the twelfth season of the German ProB basketball division . The ProB is the second highest season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The season's points round began on September 22, 2018 and ended on February 23, 2019. Leverkusen became champions, and Münster was beaten in the two finals. After the naming rights were granted to the insurance company Barmer , the league was officially called “Barmer 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB”.

mode

24 teams are scheduled to take part in the league, divided into a northern and a southern relay. In each season, a point round is played as a round-robin tournament in the "everyone against everyone" mode with a return game. The eight best-placed teams of the two relays in the final table play two finalists in the championship round ("playoffs"), who thus acquire the athletic right to participate in the basketball Bundesliga (BBL), which they obtain when a license is granted on the basis of economic and infrastructure Eligibility criteria for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA. The championship round is held across the relay teams and in the first round provides for "cross duels" between teams from the northern and southern relay. The finalists also play the champions of this league in the two legs. The teams that are in ninth to twelfth places in the final table of the scoring round in both seasons contest a relegation round which, unlike the championship round, only provides for games within their own season ("everyone against everyone" with a return match). The teams that are in eleventh and twelfth places at the end of the relegation round in the northern and southern seasons are relegated to the 1st regional league.

conditions

  • According to the "announcement of the Bundesliga competition ProB 2018/2019" by the 2. • The participating teams have to pay a participation fee of 8,350 euros (plus VAT) in order to cover, among other things, registration fees, costs for doping control measures, the licensing procedure for the following year, referee training and further training funds and the membership fee for the AG 2. Basketball Bundesliga.

Aliens regulation

According to the game and event regulations, one player per team is entitled to play "who is not a citizen of EU member states or states whose citizens in Germany enjoy the same rules of freedom of movement (freedom of movement) as EU citizens as EU citizens." Season Notes

  • As relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA came the RheinStars Cologne , who voluntarily decided to withdraw from the ProA despite having achieved league play, and the Ulm OrangeAcademy .
  • As promoters from the regional leagues, BG Bitterfeld-Sandersdorf Wolfen 06 (champions of the 1st Regionalliga North), UBC Münster (champions of the 1st Regionalliga West) and Wiha Panthers Schwenningen (champions of the 1st Regionalliga Southwest) made it into the 2nd. Bundesliga ProB. The Rockets II (champions of the 1st Regionalliga Südost) renounced promotion and gave their right to participate to the BBC Coburg , which had failed to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB.
  • Since the Artland Dragons took over the participation rights of the Bundesliga relegated Rockets in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA, the vacated space was handed over to the newly founded Basketball Löwen Erfurt .
  • The game between Würzburg and Coburg (December 22, 2018) was scored 20: 0 for Coburg because of a violation of the Würzburg game and event regulations (use of a player not entered on the score sheet), Würzburg was one point deducted.
  • Johannes Konrad was banned from the Itzehoe Eagles from December 15, 2018 to May 14, 2019 for a violation of the anti-doping regulations.
  • On February 18, 2019, ETB Essen's license was subsequently withdrawn due to a lack of economic performance. At this time, Essen was already knocked off bottom of the table in the northern season
  • Leverkusen set a new record because they lost only one of their 22 games in the point round. This was the best record since the introduction of the double-track ProB in 2010. The previous record holder was the Ehingen / Urspring School , which lost two games in 2010/11 .
  • With Münster (northern relay) and Leverkusen (southern relay), the two first-ranked teams reached the finals, here Leverkusen prevailed.
