2. Basketball Bundesliga 1995/96

The 1995/96 season is the 21st season of the 2nd Bundesliga . The regular season began on September 16, 1995 and ended on March 2, 1996. The postseason with relegation and relegation rounds lasted from March 9, 1996 to April 27, 1996.

Before the start of the season, the league was divided into two seasons (north and south), each with twelve teams. The six best teams in the final table of the relays acquired the right to participate in a three-tier relegation round with the six worst teams in the 1995/96 basketball league for promotion to the basketball league (BBL). The six worst teams each took part in a relegation round. Two teams descended into the assigned regional leagues regularly per season. The results of the main round were taken into the relegation rounds.

Season Notes

• Relegated from the first basketball league in 1994/95 was forbo Paderborn 91 in the northern group. After the athletically qualified TuS Lichterfelde renounced the promotion, in addition to the sporty climbers Rhöndorfer TV and TG Landshut , TuS Herten and SG Braunschweig moved up to the BBL 1995/96 , which was increased by two teams , as the first division club SG Bramsche / Osnabrück are in the regional league withdrew
• Newcomers to the north group were Schalke 04 and TV 1864 Salzkotten as well as BG Chemnitz , Bayern Munich and BG Post / Südstern Karlsruhe in the south group
• The group South finally started with 13 teams, so that there had to be three relegated teams in the end. After the relegation round, there were even four relegated teams.
• At the end of the season, Telekom Baskets Bonn (north) and TSV Speyer (south) won the championship of the 2nd Bundesliga .
