ProA 2007/08

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2007/08 season is the first season of the German ProA basketball division . The ProA is the first season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The regular season began on September 29, 2007 and ended on April 19, 2008.

mode

16 teams took part in the league this season. The two best-placed teams acquired the right to participate in the basketball Bundesliga (BBL). The two worst teams relegated to the lower season ProB of the second division.

qualification

Since the league was reorganized, there was a qualification mode for the athletic entitlement rights that included the three previous seasons of the 2nd BBL. Points were awarded for the final placements. The 2004/2005 season counted once, the 2005/2006 season counted twice and the 2006/2007 season counted four times.

The qualified teams POM baskets Jena and BG 74 Göttingen were promoted to the BBL. Their places were taken by the relegated Karlsruhe and Nuremberg .

conditions

The participating teams had to prove a minimum budget of 200,000 euros and a venue with a capacity for 1,000 spectators.

A maximum of 18 players per season and team could be used. At least nine of them had to be German citizens . Of the maximum of twelve players that could be used per game, at least six had to be German. There were double licenses for players in the U24 age group with the BBL and for U22 players from the regional leagues (and below). These players do not count among the 18 maximum players, but they do count towards the national quota (provided they are German).

Season Notes

  • The Cuxhaven BasCats did not apply for a license for the first BBL at the end of the season until March 15, 2008, although the athletic qualification was almost certain. The minimum requirements of the BBL are currently unattainable for the association.
  • On the other hand, the Bremen Roosters , whose relegation was not even guaranteed on the cut-off date, are very likely to apply for a license for the BBL.
  • The German Basketball Federation (DBB) sued the reorganization of the 2nd Bundesliga before the start of the season because it saw the regional leagues (whose game operations are organized by the DBB) degraded by the hierarchical staggering. However, the application for an injunction was rejected by the Darmstadt Regional Court.
  • Before the start of the season, an application was made to expand the Pro A to 18 teams, but this was rejected.
  • The two relegated from the BBL 2006/07 were: BG Karlsruhe and Dimplex Falke Nürnberg .
