Robin Clemens Benzing (born January 25, 1989 in Seeheim-Jugenheim ) is a German basketball player . Since 2019 he has been under contract with CAI Zaragoza for the second time in his career .

career

Like Johannes Herber , he began his basketball career at SC Bergstrasse . He later switched to TV Langen and made it to the second division squad there in 2006. Benzing plays the position of small forward , but can also play power forward due to his size of 208 cm .

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, Benzing was about to move to the University of Michigan . This was not carried out due to the NCAA rules, which would have required a one-year break. In 2009 he was hired by the Bundesliga club ratiopharm Ulm . In the 2010/11 BBL season, Benzing was the best German thrower in Ulm with an average of 15.1 points. After the end of the season, he signed up for the 2011 NBA draft , in which, however, he was not selected.

In the 2011/12 season he moved within the league to newly promoted FC Bayern Munich , with whom he became German champion in the 2013/14 season . After missing his title defense in 2015, Benzing announced that it would leave the club. He then moved to Spain to CAI Zaragoza first division .

After Benzing remained without a contract for a long time in the summer of 2017 and reached the quarter-finals at the European Championship finals in Istanbul with the national team , he finally signed a three-year contract with s.Oliver Würzburg shortly before the start of the season . With 17.2 points per game, he was Würzburg's top scorer in the 2017/18 season. He then left the club at his own request, and at the beginning of September 2018 he switched to the top Turkish team Beşiktaş Istanbul . For Beşiktaş, he scored an average of 9.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per match in the 2018/19 main round of the Turkish league.

In July 2019 he returned to Spain and Zaragoza.

National team

He took part with the German youth teams in several championships, namely U16 EM 2005 (B group), U18 EM 2006 and 2007, U20 EM 2008 (B group) and 2009. Benzing was with the U20 EM 2009 an average of 22.2 points per game for the best thrower of the tournament.

In August 2009 Benzing made his debut in the German senior team. He was part of the German squad for the European Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 as well as the World Cup in 2010. At the European Basketball Championships in 2017 , he led the German selection as captain on the floor and reached the quarter-finals. Benzing is among the top 20 in the list of record national players and points collectors .

At the 2019 World Cup in China, Benzing scored 8.0 points per encounter over the course of the tournament.
