↑ ProA 2015/16 |
The 2015/16 season is the ninth season of the German ProB basketball division . The ProB is the second season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The regular season began on September 26, 2015 and ended on March 5, 2016. This was followed by the play-offs for promotion and the play-down delegation rounds, which ended on May 7, 2016 with the second final game.
mode
Twelve teams each in two groups, North and South, take part in this division's play. The regular season is played as a round- robin tournament in the mode everyone against everyone ( English "Round Robin" ) with a return game in the respective regional group. The eight best-placed teams at the end of this main round play the two finalists in the play-offs in the "best-of-three" mode , both of whom acquire the right to participate in the ProA for the following season and play the champions of this division. The teams in positions nine to twelve of each group at the end of the main round play another round-robin tournament with a round trip within the regional groups while maintaining the main round results, with the two teams in the two lowest places in the table relegating to the regional leagues. If more than twelve teams take part in a group, the teams ranked behind twelfth place in the main round are relegated directly.
conditions
The participating clubs must provide proof of their athletic qualifications, economic performance, suitability of technical playing facilities and organizational requirements, which is regulated by the license statute. In addition, the organization of the club, the promotion of young talent and the venue infrastructure are assessed using a point system. In particular, a venue with a capacity for at least 500 spectators is mandatory for participants in the ProB.
During the game there must always be three German players per team on the field, the German players are marked with a German flag on their jerseys. A maximum of 18 players per season and team can be used. At least nine of these must have German citizenship. Of the maximum of twelve players that can be used per game, at least six must be German. There are double licenses for players in the U24 age group, who can therefore be used at the same time in the BBL , as well as for U22 players from the regional leagues (and below). Players with a double license do not count among the 18 maximum usable players, but those with German citizenship do count towards the national quota.
Season Notes
- From the ProA 2014/15 , the bottom of the table erdgas Ehingen / Urspringschule rose as a sporty relegation . The Cuxhaven BasCats , which only slipped back to a relegation place after the withdrawal of an arbitration judgment, received neither a license for the ProA nor for the ProB, as they could not provide evidence of economic performance for the following season. After more than ten years of membership in the second highest division, the BasCats, who were promoted as SV Rot-Weiss Cuxhaven and even qualified for the highest division in 2008 and 2010 , left the national divisions again.
- The master of the ProB 2014/15 , the Baskets Akademie Weser-Ems Oldenburger TB , did not apply for a license for the ProA 2015/16 and thus forfeited his athletic promotion right as did finalist SC Rist Wedel , who did not pursue his license application for the ProA. Of the play-off participants, the quarter-finalist TG WhiteWings Hanau and the last sixteen Dragons Rhöndorf emerged, who received the ProA license and achieved promotion to the ProA 2015/16.
- Newcomers from the regional leagues were three former first division clubs with the ScanPlus Baskets Elchingen in the southwest and the direct climbers Giants Nördlingen in the southeast and the dukes Wolfenbüttel in the north. As in the north, the RheinStars Cologne could only secure first place and promotion in the west through a direct comparison . After the wild card for the Crailsheim Merlins in the top division, the Cologne team, who are the successors of the old masters BSC Saturn Cologne and Cologne 99ers , obtained a wild card for the ProA 2015/16 , due to the Merlins remaining in the basketball league had become free, and made it straight through to the second highest division.
- The reserve team SG Braunschweig of the first division basketball Löwen Braunschweig joined forces with their former rivals after the return of their regional neighbor, Duke Wolfenbüttel. The Artland Dragons , also from Lower Saxony , successfully applied for this vacancy . With the organization of the former cup winner and runner-up, who withdrew from the top division after twelve years after the end of the basketball Bundesliga in 2014/15 , these Dragons essentially only have the company , the logo and the home ground in common.
- In addition to the BSW Sixers, who were directly relegated after the main round of the pre-season in the north, Otto Baskets Magdeburg also had to relegate from Saxony-Anhalt before the 2015/16 season, whose license withdrawal only came into effect after the end of the 2014/15 season. The Otto Baskets had only received the license, which was later withdrawn, shortly before the preseason and thus forced the participation of a 13th team in the north of the 2014/15 season. After the license withdrawal of the Otto Baskets and the non-granted license for the Cuxhaven BasCats, only the TV Langen Giraffes , who had belonged to the first or second national basketball league since 1978 , remained among the participants in the relegation round as relegated athletes .
- The regional division of the groups north and south was adjusted again, so that the teams from Saxony returned to the group south. In connection with the ProA promoters from the Rhineland , this meant that all teams from North Rhine-Westphalia now play in the North group.

* Exchange rights. / x Home rights in the second final game.
The final will be played in the two-legged mode, in which the better-placed team had home rights after the main round in the second leg, so that the worse-placed team had to play at home first in the first leg.
