Ryon Howard (born October 17, 1984 ) is an American / German professional basketball player .

career

Howard played basketball, American football and lacrosse at the Holderness School, New Hampshire . From 2004 he was a member of the basketball team at Sacred Heart College in the state of Connecticut . In November 2006 he injured his knee and dropped out for the remainder of the 2006/07 season. In 2009 he graduated from Sacred Heart College with a degree in economics. He then began a career as a professional basketball player that took him to Germany.

Howard's first stop as a professional was BSV Wulfen in the 1st Regionalliga West in the 2009/10 season . He helped significantly to lead the team to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB , but missed parts of the season after breaking his foot in January 2010.

For the 2010/2011 season, Howard moved to the Dragons Rhöndorf in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . There he should help to lead the promoted and champion of ProB 2010 to relegation. After the relegation of the Dragons Howard moved back to the 1st Regionalliga West and received a contract with VfL AstroStars Bochum . With VfL he won the championship of the 1st Regionalliga West in the 2012/13 season and thus rose again to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. Howard then extended his contract with VfL and remained a top performer and leading player for Bochum in the following years. During his time at VfL, Howard took on German citizenship.

Howard stayed with VfL for seven years before retiring to the regional league and moving to the Hertener Löwen during the 2018 summer break  . Then he also played in the regional league at BSG Grevenbroich . In mid-January 2020 he tore his cruciate ligament , and at the beginning of February 2020 he was appointed coach of the released Jason Price in Grevenbroich .
