The BSV Wulfen is a basketball club from the district of Wulfen von Dorsten in southern Münsterland, whose men's team plays in the first regional league (as of 2019). From 2010 to 2013 the troupe played in the northern season of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

history

A basketball division was founded in 1969 within the 1. SC Blau Weiß Wulfen, from which the BSV Wulfen emerged in 1980. From 1987 the men's team played in the first regional league. In the regional league season 2009/10, BSV Wulfen benefited as third from the relinquishment of the regional league runner-up Grevenbroich Elephants and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB (northern season) for the first time under the direction of coach Philipp Kappenstein .

2010/11 season

With a 67:59 home win against the second representation of ALBA Berlin , BSV Wulfen secured early relegation on the third last match day of the season and moved into the playoffs in its first second division season . With a 70:69 home win on the last day of the season against the Uni-Giants Leipzig , BSV Wulfen even managed to jump to 5th place. In the first playoff round, BSV Wulfen met fourth in the table of Pro B Süd, the Hessian representative Licher BasketBären .

In the first playoff game in Modus, BSV Wulfen clearly lost away with 56:75. The second game, however, was decided 81:77 in favor of BSV Wulfen, so that it came to a decisive third game in Lich, Hesse. In game 3, the BSV Wulfen was already hopelessly behind with 28:49 at the break and could not make it into the quarter-finals of the playoffs despite a great fight in half time. Lich won the third game 96:85 and the series 2-1.

Nevertheless, all those responsible for the club rated the first second division season, with the premature relegation, as a complete success.

Shortly after the end of the season, BSV coach Philipp Kappenstein had to cancel the new season after three successful years for professional reasons. Thorsten Morzuch was introduced as the new trainer.

2011/12 season

BSV Münsterland Baskets Wulfen

Since the 2011/12 season, the BSV Wulfen ProB team has been playing away games under the name BSV Münsterland Baskets Wulfen . The name affix demonstrates the identity with the region, the Münsterland. For this purpose, a modified logo was also designed.

After playing 11 games of the season, Thorsten Morzuch announced his resignation from the coaching position, for professional and health reasons. The people in charge of the club decided to start with assistant coach Sebastian Borgmann as head coach for the rest of the season.

During the Christmas break, the Münsterland Baskets strengthened themselves with the American pointguard Rodriguez Sherman. The youngster David Feldmann, who was only signed at the beginning of the season, left the club in the course of this.

On the penultimate game day of the season, the Münsterland Baskets secured relegation early. BSV Münsterland Baskets Wulfen missed one of the play-off places due to a significant 66:82 home defeat against the designated ProB-Nord champion UBC Hannover Tigers on the last day of the match. The season ended in 9th place in the table, which ensured direct relegation, but qualified neither for playoff nor playdown games. In the 2012/13 season, the Münsterland Baskets will contest their 3rd second division season.

After the end of the season, Wolfen's head coach Sebastian Borgmann, who had only "risen" to head coach during the season, announced his resignation from the coaching position for professional reasons. In addition, the 20-year-old winger Thomas Reuter announced his move to Washington State University .

In March 2012, those responsible at BSV Wulfen announced that the former Bundesliga player Heimo Förster had been appointed head coach for the 2012/13 season.

2012/13 season

Under head coach Heimo Förster , the team was changed in many positions. As in the previous year, the team found itself in the bottom third of the table for the entire season.

Several changes were made within the squad over the course of the season, but there was no sporting upswing. At the end of the main round, the team finished 11th and penultimate place in the Pro B Nord table . In the relegation round 2012/2013, the team could not ensure relegation and was already determined before the last game day of the round as a relegated athlete. Thus, the team returned to the 1st Regionalliga West from the 2013/2014 season.

From 2013

For the 2013/14 season, the previous captain Maik Berger took over as coach. In the 2015/16 season, the BSV was relegated to the second regional league, and Berger's tenure in Wulfen came to an end.

In the spring of 2016, plans for a merger between the BSV and the BG Dorsten became more concrete . At a club meeting in November 2016, however, the majority of the BSV members present voted against the previously necessary amendment to the statutes, so the merger of the two clubs was not realized.

At the end of April 2018, Predrag Radanovic, the new coach of the Wulfen men's team (2nd regional league), was introduced, who replaced Marsha Owusi-Gyamfi, who held this position for two years. Radanovic led the team to the championship title in spring 2019 and thus to promotion to the 1st regional league. With Gary Johnson , a new coach was hired in May 2019, the team was reinforced by Hendrik Bellscheidt, a returnee with second division experience. Since the 2019/20 season ended prematurely due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus , the final table was already set in mid-March 2020: In this, the BSV came in tenth with ten wins and 15 defeats. The team's most successful scorer in 2019/20 was the US American Bryant Allen with an average of 23.1 points per game.
