society

The club was founded on May 23, 1930 as Sportverein Oberelchingen 1930 e. V founded. The nucleus was the football department. In 1935 the company was promoted to the A-Class. Club life came to a complete standstill during the Second World War . After the end of the war, the club, like all sports clubs in Germany, was dissolved by the Allies. On January 2, 1946, the association was then re-established. Again, the footballers were the driving force. The top division of footballers was the national league. In 2001, after a voluntary retreat in the district league B, it started again. In 2009 the footballers were champions in the district league B and rose to the district league A. After only one year of membership in the district league A, the active footballers then had to go back to the district league B.

Established in 1975, the basketball division was top notch in the 1990s.

basketball

history

After the championship of the national league in 1986/1987, the Highland Elks basketball department in Oberelchingen began to focus on competitive sports . Under coach Josef Burton, the Highland Elks rose to the league. The class could not be held as twelfth in the table. Under player- coach Leopold Dejworek succeeded with the renewed championship title, the immediate return to the league. In the following season 1989/1990, the team strengthened, among other things, with the 217-fold Polish national player Krzysztof Fikiel . The team rose as champions in the regional league. In the 1990/1991 season, SV Oberelchingen continued its march through and became champions of the regional league under coach Thomas Benson.

In their first season in 1991/1992 in the 2nd basketball league , the Elche took 10th place. Relegation was achieved in the last game at USC Freiburg . In the following season, 1992/1993, Oberelchingen closed up to the top group of the 2nd Bundesliga and finished in 3rd place. A year later, in the 1993/1994 season, SV Oberelchingen won the second division championship. The team rose to the Veltins basketball league . The decision was made on the last day of the match against Tübingen . At the end of the season the team name was changed from SV Highland Elks Oberelchingen to SV Tally Oberelchingen . The name and main sponsor Tally made Bundesliga basketball in Oberelchingen possible through its funding. The sporting success correlated with the amount of financial donations.

Their first season in the top German league was the "Elche" in 1994/1995, with an annual budget of only about 850,000 DM, finishing eighth in the table. With this, the club managed the feat of reaching the play-off round as a climber . In the quarter-finals, Oberelchingen failed at the defending champion and later champion Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the 1995/1996 season they confirmed the play-off entry with another 8th place. In the new edition of the quarter-finals of the previous year, the future champions Leverkusen was a size too big a second time. The team thus qualified for the Korac Cup European Cup . The annual budget was around 940,000 DM.

The 1996/1997 season was the most successful in the club's history. In the Korać Cup, they were the first in Group P to make it to the sixteenth finals. There the team was eliminated from the Croatian club KK Zrinjevac Zagreb . The Bundesliga season ended with fifth place. So Oberelchingen was again qualified for the Korać Cup. In the 1997/1998 season the budget was cut from DM 980,000 to around DM 900,000. The team did not reach the play-offs for the first time due to injuries to some top performers as 12th. In the qualifying round, they won the group and secured their place in the first division. In 1998/1999 the budget was cut again. There were only 750,000 DM available. Despite the lowest budget so far, the team managed the play-off qualification with 7th place. In the 2nd round, the play-off semifinals, they had to admit defeat to Rhöndorfer TV .

This was SV Oberelchingen's last first division season. This was followed by the withdrawal from the 1st Bundesliga because of a cooperation with the league competitor SSV Ulm 1846 . The amateur departments of SSV Ulm 1846 and SV Oberelchingen merged to form BG Ulm / Elchingen . SV Oberelchingen was supposed to use its know-how to train the young players and introduce them to the first division, as the first division could no longer be financed by the SVO. The second division season 1999/2000 that followed the retreat ended in seventh place with a budget of 350,000 DM. In the 2000/2001 season, the cooperation in the professional area with SSV Ulm was terminated again in 1846 after a change in the board of directors in Ulm. The season was finished 6th, the budget was only 280,000 DM. In 2001/2002 the team took 16th place in the 2nd division.

In the 2001/2002 season the sponsors Tally and dplus ended their commitment to the club. As a result, the economic basis for professional basketball in Elchingen was no longer given. The team name was changed back to Highland Elks . Due to the low budget of 110,000 DM, it was no longer possible to hire a foreigner, professional or head coach. In 2002/2003 games were played in the amateur field. The club was relegated from the regional league. The BG Oberelchingen / Ulm ended in the course of the insolvency proceedings of the SSV Ulm in 1846.

In the season they finished second in the league and the relegation against TSV Ettlingen. In the next season, the club achieved 3rd place and missed the relegation. In 2005/2006 they reached 2nd place in the Oberliga Ost, relegation - and renewed promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest-Süd. There the team finished eighth in 2006/2007. This means that the qualification for the newly created, merged Regionalliga Südwest was missed. In 2007/2008, Oberelchingen was fifth in the second regional league. The goal was promotion to the regional league. This was achieved in 2014. Under the name ScanPlus Baskets Elchingen, they won the championship title in the first regional league season and in 2015 rose to the third-class 2nd Bundesliga ProB . The master maker was coach Dario Jerkić , who then led the team into the quarter-finals of the championship round as a promoted team in the 2015/16 ProB season and reached the semi-finals with her in 2016/17.

The points round of the 2017/18 game year was completed as the first in the table of the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. In the subsequent championship round, coach Jerkic's team moved into the final series and prevailed there in the European Cup mode (two-way leg) against Rostock , thus winning the title in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. The mainstays of the championship team included the American Hayden Lescault, the Croat Jere Vucica, Brian Butler , Kristian Kuhn , the Hungarian Stefan Fekete and Filmore Beck . At the beginning of April 2018, the club announced that it would not apply for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga ProA  . "This decision had to be made because the necessary criteria, which are specified by the league and which the club has set itself, cannot be met in the remaining time," said the Elchinger. Since only 1400 spectators are allowed in the home arena Brühlhalle and a minimum of 1500 seats are required for the ProA, other solutions were explored: An approval process to increase the spectator capacity could not have been completed at the necessary time, a move to the Kuhberghalle in Ulm also fell  apart. The Elchingen municipal council had rejected the necessary renovation work in the Brühlhalle for a ProA ascent. In addition, the amount the club was aiming for for a ProA budget could not be reached by the time the decision was made.

In the 2018/19 game year Elchingen was eliminated in the ProB round of 16 against Oldenburg. At the beginning of April 2019, Igor Perovic was introduced as the new coach, replacing Borislav Kurtovic, who returned to the youth sector. The team finished the points round of the 2019/20 season as leaders. Since the game year ended prematurely on March 17, 2020 due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus , the league awarded Elchingen the right to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA. The best Elchinger basket shooter of the 2019/20 season was the American Lamar Mallory with 15.9 points per game. At the beginning of April 2020 the decision of the club was announced to withdraw the team from the professional area due to the expected "considerable loss of sales" and to have it compete in the regional league from now on. Although another attempt was made to meet the conditions for obtaining eligibility to participate in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA, the league made it clear in discussions that no special permit would be granted to use the Brühlhalle as a venue for home games. Coach Perovic left the club in summer 2020, he was succeeded by his previous assistant, the Croatian Dino Erceg.
