Steven Edward Johnson (born August 20, 1966 in Charleston ) is a former American - German basketball player . As a 1.97 m tall builder and winger, he was in the squad of Bundesliga clubs Brandt Hagen , TVG Trier , Bayer Leverkusen , SV Oberelchingen , SG FT / MTV Braunschweig and BCJ Hamburg during his career .

Career

Johnson played for the College of Charleston from 1984 to 1988 , scoring a total of 1,456 points for the team. This put him in fourth place in the college's all-time basket hunter list when he ended his college career in 1988. Johnson was then invited by the NBA club Charlotte Hornets for a test training before its premiere season.

After an engagement in the NBA had failed, Johnson moved to Germany to the Bundesliga club Brandt Hagen and showed in his first season as a professional what had distinguished him at college: He and should prove his strengths as a strong offensive player and winger in the following years regularly belonged to the best basketball Bundesliga scorer. After two years in Hagen, Johnson moved to league rivals Trier in 1990. He played there until he moved to Bayer Leverkusen during the 1994/95 season. This was followed by further positions in the top German league: From 1995 to 1998 he strengthened SV Oberelchingen, between 1998 and 2000 he was under contract in Braunschweig. In the spring of 2000, Johnson was banned for three months as a result of a positive doping test. Traces of ephedrine and marijuana had been discovered.

He played the 2000/01 season at BCJ Hamburg, also in the Bundesliga. Johnson then moved to France, where he played for the ProB club Maurienne in the 2001/02 season. In 2002 he returned to Brandt Hagen, where he stayed until the end of the 2002/03 season.

In the 2003/04 season Johnson played for the Spanish club Drac Inca Mallorca, in 2004/05 he joined the Austrian Bundesliga club Kraftwerk Wels . In 2004 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the College of Charleston.

In November 2005, Johnson succeeded Steven Wriedt as head coach of the German second division club Iserlohn . In the spring of 2006 Johnson was succeeded in this office by Paris Konstantinidis.
