Steven Wriedt

Steven Tyson Wriedt (born December 29, 1970 in Orange (New Jersey) ) is an American - German basketball coach and former player. Since 2017 he has been the assistant coach of the Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers .

Player career

Wriedt played in his native USA in the 1988/89 season for La Salle University and from 1990 to 1993 at Monmouth University : With 166 blocked throws, the 2.10 meter tall indoor player was second in the university team's all-time list of the best, when he left Monmouth.

In 1993 he started his professional career with Brandt Hagen in the German basketball league , in 1994 he won the DBB Cup with the team. From 1996 until the team withdrew in the spring of 1998, Wriedt was under contract with the Ruhr Devils . He spent the 1998/99 season in Portugal, where he  strengthened the Ginásio Clube Figueirense . From 1999 to 2001 he was active again at Brandt Hagen, followed by two years at TuS Iserlohn in the Regionalliga and in the 2002/03 season in the 2nd basketball league . Two herniated discs forced him to retire. As a senior player, he won the German over 35 championship with VFK Hagen in 2010.

Coaching career

In spring 2004 he was Iserlohn's head coach in the 2nd Bundesliga, in November 2005 it came to a separation. Then he was head coach of the BG Hagen and rose with the team in the first regional league.

From 2006 Wriedt was assistant trainer at Phoenix Hagen : Until 2009 in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , after promotion then in the Bundesliga. Since 2007 he has worked with head coach Ingo Freyer  . Wriedt's tenure ended in December 2016 when Phoenix's Bundesliga license was revoked.

For the 2017/18 season, Wriedt switched to the Bundesliga team Gießen 46ers as an assistant coach , where he in turn formed a coaching team with Freyer.
