William Louis Beatty

William Louis Beatty (born September 4, 1925 in Mendota , LaSalle County , Illinois , †  July 22, 2001 in Edwardsville , Illinois) was an American lawyer . After his appeal by President Jimmy Carter , he served as a federal judge in the federal district court for the southern district of Illinois from 1979 .

Career

After finishing school, William Beatty served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 . After retiring from the military, he attended the School of Law at Saint Louis University in Missouri , where he received his Bachelor of Laws in 1950 . He then practiced as a lawyer in Granite City until 1968 . From 1968 to 1979 he was a District Court Judge for the Illinois Third District Court in Madison County .

On July 31, 1979, Beatty was appointed by President Carter to judge the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois ; so he took over a previously newly established seat. After confirmation by the US Senate , which took place on October 4 of the same year, he was able to take office the next day. On November 9, 1992, he switched to senior status and thus effectively retired. His seat fell to David R. Herndon . William Beatty died on July 22, 2001 in Edwardsville.
