The SSV Ulm 1846 (officially: Swimming and Sports Club Ulm 1846 eV) is a sports club from the Swabian city ​​of Ulm . The TSG Ulm 1846 went back to the Turngemeinde Ulm , which was founded in 1846 as the first gymnastics club in the city and was renamed the Turnerbund 1846 Ulm in 1860 . On August 16, 1939, the Ulm FV 1894, the Turnerbund 1846 Ulm, the Turnverein 1868 Ulm and the Sports Association 1889 Ulm , formed in 1920 through the merger of the Germania Ulm and Ulma Ulm clubs, merged to form the gymnastics and sports community Ulm 1846 in order to be able to live in the city to create a powerful sports club. Because the Second World War broke out shortly afterwards, regular training and matches were soon no longer possible. At the Württemberg gymnastics, game and athletics championships in Ulm's Friedrichsau, game operations had to be interrupted in 1943 due to an air raid. After the war, TSG rose to the Oberliga Süd in 1946, but could not hold on there in the long term. From 1947 to 1950, Toni Turek , the " football god " and 1954 world champion, was part of the team.

In 1922 the swimming department of the TB Ulm split off from the remaining club as the 1st swimming club in Ulm . On October 12, 1928, the Schwaben sports club , which had previously left TV Ulm, joined 1. SV Ulm. This created the 1st swimming and sports club in Ulm in 1928 .

The basketball department of the SSV Ulm 1846 emerged from the department of the 1st SSV, whose basketball team first took part in the game in 1957. Between 1986 and 1988, the men's team made it through from the then third-rate regional league to the top division of the basketball league , to which it belonged until 2001 and was able to become German cup winners in 1996 and runner-up in the 1997/98 season . After relegation in 2001, bankruptcy had to be filed. Then a separate gaming company was founded as a GmbH under the name ratiopharm Ulm , which finally returned to the top division in 2006. For this, however, the venue for the team's home games at the time, the Ulm Kuhberghalle, had to be expanded from 2,000 to 3,000 seats in accordance with the BBL statutes. In December 2011, during the 2011/12 season, the team moved to the newly built ratiopharm arena multi-purpose hall in Neu-Ulm. The junior team of SSV Ulm 1846 plays as the "Basketball Academy Ulm" in the South Division of the junior basketball league .

The dance sports department has around 200 members and offers a rich program for dance athletes of all ages and levels.
